In this consultation we are seeking your views on the future of the House Sales Schemes. This is because without changes to the schemes it is unlikely that we will be able to have the Office for National Statistics reverse their decision. The House Sales Schemes are Northern Ireland’s equivalent to the Right to Buy Schemes in other jurisdictions.
Registered Housing Associations are the only organisations that develop new social homes in Northern Ireland. The decision of the Office for National Statistics has the potential to significantly reduce the amount of money available for the Northern Ireland Executive’s programme for developing new social homes, thus reducing the number of social homes being developed each year. There would also be a major knock on effect on the waiting lists for social homes.
The consultation outlines different proposals for the future of the schemes and seeks your views on each.
