Consultation description
The Department is proposing to bring forward subordinate legislation under Article 17 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) (NI) Order 1985. The Local Government (Cremations) Regulations 2024 will be the first set of regulations to be made under this provision and, subject to the outcome of the consultation, will broadly follow similar legislation in England and Wales.
The proposed regulations will update and replace the current legislative provisions contained within the Cremation (Belfast) Regulations (NI) 1961 and will apply to all crematoria provided and maintained by councils.
The Department would welcome any views on the proposals set out in the consultation document and on the content of the draft regulations.
The closing date for this consultation was initially 30 September 2024 but has been extended to 14 October 2024 at 17.00.
The EQIA Screening is also available.
