Consultation description
This consultation seeks views on changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme in Northern Ireland (LGPS (NI)). It outlines proposed changes to the LGPS (NI) statutory underpin protection to remove unlawful discrimination found by the Courts in relation to public service pension scheme ‘transitional protection’ arrangements.
Specifically, we propose to remove the condition that required a member to have been within ten years of their normal pension age on 1 April 2012 to be eligible for underpin protection. In removing the discrimination, we are proposing a number of supplementary changes to ensure the revised underpin works effectively and consistently for all members
