Summary
In June 2019 the Department for Communities published a consultation paper “Definition of Affordable Housing”. This paper made proposals for revising the current definition of affordable housing.

Consultation description
It was envisaged that a revised overarching definition would provide a framework for the development of a broader range of intermediate products while maintaining the established meaning of social rented housing, which may assist in improving the delivery of appropriate housing and increase suitable housing supply to meet objective need and demand.
The Definition of Affordable Housing consultation closed in September 2019. The Department has considered consultee responses and, as a result of this analysis, made minor amendments to the proposals set out in the initial consultation.
These amendments are detailed in the above document “Definition of Affordable Housing: Further Stakeholder Engagement Briefing Paper”.
The Department welcomes any comments you may have in relation to the content of this briefing paper; there is no need to include responses previously submitted.
