Job opportunities to be seized at major Newry, Mourne and Down job fair
Date published:
The Department for Communities, in partnership with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Eures Cross Border Partnership, is hosting a major job fair in Newry on Thursday 23 March 2017.
The Job Fair will take place in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry between 10am and 3pm, and admission is free. More than 60 employers will take part including representatives from the care, manufacturing, hospitality and retail sectors and many more.
The Job Fair aims to offer people who are seeking employment the opportunity to meet up with a range of prospective employers and apply for work. It is a chance to find out more about how to enhance your employability and learn about the types of jobs that are currently available.
Leo O’Reilly, Permanent Secretary of the Department for Communities said: “If anyone is seeking a job or a thinking of a change in career, this major job fair brings a range of employers under one roof. People will be able to apply for jobs and get an insight into what employers are offering and the skills they are seeking. It will provide the opportunity to make valuable connections, explore options and get advice. I would encourage as many people as possible to take the time on 23 March to visit the job fair. For some it may be a defining day for their future career.”
Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick, Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council said: “Our Council are once again delighted to sponsor and participate in the job fair. The event meets the objectives within our Councils Economic, Regeneration and Investment Strategy particularly in relation to job creation and employability within the District.”
Dympna Boyle, EURES Cross Border Coordinator said: “The EURES IE/NI Cross Border Partnership is very happy to support this event which will benefit both employers and jobseekers in this cross border region. It is important for the people living here to have this kind of event in their locality highlighting the opportunities for employment in their own region and to help them with any queries on cross border employment. It is equally important for employers to be able to access the larger cross border labour market.”
The Department for Communities’ Job Search Services and Disability Employment Service and the Department for the Economy’s Careers Service along with other support organisations will also be on hand to provide advice and guidance on training and employment programmes currently available for anyone seeking to upskill or retrain.
