Department launches recruitment competition for new Discretionary Support Commissioner

The Department for Communities has launched a competition to recruit a new Discretionary Support Commissioner.
The term of office for the incumbent Discretionary Support Commissioner ends in August 2022 with a new Commissioner to take up post from 1 September 2022.
The Commissioner is an independent statutory office holder appointed by the Department for Communities. Leading a small team of Inspectors, the Discretionary Support Commissioner is responsible for the delivery of an independent review service for people who have made a claim to Discretionary Support and are unhappy with the decision from the Department for Communities.
The Commissioner’s role is to:
- monitor the quality of decisions of Discretionary Support Inspectors and provide advice and assistance to improve the standard of their decisions
- arrange training of Discretionary Support Inspectors
- carry out such other functions in connection with the work of Discretionary Support Inspectors as the Department may require.

- The post will be held for a period of three years.
- The post carries a salary of £16,554 per annum (under review).
- The post holder will be based in Belfast and required to normally work one day per week. Hybrid working arrangements may apply.
