Urban Development Grants: Portrush

The Portrush-specific UDG scheme is one of the key regeneration measures that has been identified as being crucial to the town’s long-term regeneration.

Following application and award, the following projects are now in progress;

22 Dunluce Avenue

This large vacant site located within the boundary of the commercial core of Portrush. The project is a mixed use development which will incorporate two commercial units on the ground floor, 10 apartments on the first and second floors and three penthouse apartments on the top levels. There are plans for a café/restaurant to occupy one of the retail units, with the other not yet specified. Basement parking is proposed within this development.

Total project costs for 22 Dunluce Ave are £2.3million, including Departmental UDG funding of £485k. Almost 30 jobs will be created upon completion, with 15 full-time and 14 part-time jobs estimated.

60 Main Street

Built in 1898 and having a Grade B+ listed status, 60 Main Street is one of the oldest and most iconic listed buildings in Portrush. It sits on a prominent corner site at the junction with Church Pass. The building was last used as a Bank, but has been empty since 2012. The project proposes to restore this historic building back to its former glory. It will retain as many of the existing structures and features as possible, whilst improving access and facilities internally. On completion the project will deliver a commercial unit at street level, which is intended to provide café/bar facilities, and an Aparthotel on the upper floors which will provide six fully serviced apartments.

The total project costs are £1.17million, with Departmental Urban Development Grant funding of £116,707.  It is anticipated that the project will provide seven full time jobs on completion.

65-69 Eglinton Street (Quays Bar), Portrush

The Quays Bar is located on a prominent site opposite to the Portrush Train station. The project will redevelop the entire site at 65-69 Eglinton St, extending and enhancing the existing Quays Bar licensed premises. It will create a lounge bar, a first floor residents’ lounge, provide 22 bedrooms on the first and second floors and improved visitor facilities, as well as a lift and stairs. On completion the project will result in significant inward investment into the area and regeneration of a vacant site. It will also bring together a number of existing properties into one significant scheme in a prime location in the town.

The total project costs are £1,532,130, with Departmental Urban Development Grant funding of £354,253.  It is anticipated that the project will provide 10 jobs on completion.
