Development and delivery of a new Intermediate Rent policy and model - screening
Date published:
Evidence collated by the Department for Communities indicates that an increase in affordable homes for rent is required within the Northern Ireland housing market.
While the Department is exploring ways to increase the number of social rented homes, it is acknowledged that developing more social homes is not the only tool available to help those who need them. Government intervention can create the circumstances whereby households can obtain an affordable, good quality home with greater security of tenure than currently available in the Private Rented Sector. One of the methods through which the Department is exploring in order to achieve these outcomes is through the introduction of a new intermediate rental product which can be complementary to the existing tenures. This new policy and model can offer an additional affordable rental choice for those households for whom the market offering does not currently work.
