This framework provides information on Major Event Orders. It will be of interest to those in the licensed trade and registered clubs who are planning events in Northern Ireland.
Under Article 48A of the Licensing (NI) Order 1996 and Article 26A of the Registration of Clubs (NI) Order 1996, the Department for Communities may make an order which designates an event which will attract significant public interest to Northern Ireland as a major event, and which will permit an extension of the licensing hours to serve alcoholic drinks outside of the hours currently available to licensed premises or registered clubs.
To allow sufficient time for the Department to consult as required and to give proper consideration, it is recommended that requests are submitted at least 6 months in advance of the date of the event. However, it is suggested that as much notice as possible is given to enable the Department to give appropriate consideration to all aspects of the request, including making a statutory order.
