Work commences on a new Community Health Building in Strabane

Work has officially begun on site at the construction of a new Modular Community Health Building at Ballycolman in the Strabane Neighbourhood Renewal Area (NRA).

The new development, costing over £290,000, has been funded by the Department for Communities (DfC) through the Neighbourhood Renewal Investment Fund, contributing to the delivery of the capital development programme in the Strabane NRA.

Works at the site will involve the removal of the existing portable cabin and replacing it with a state of the art modular building on the same site. The new facility will be equipped with offices, counselling room, kitchen, toilet areas and a large communal meeting room and will become a hub for the local community within the next three months.

Sharon McCullagh from the DfC North West Development Office said: “The Department has worked in Partnership with the Strabane Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership Board and Strabane Health Improvement Project to facilitate the development of this project which will enhance the community space available. This approach is in line with the ambitions of the draft Programme for Government, with a focus on well-being for all and collaborative working.

This significant investment of approximately £290,000 from the Neighbourhood Renewal Investment Fund will ensure the delivery of this much needed facility providing essential services for the residents of the local Neighbourhood Renewal Area and wider Strabane area.”

Speaking on behalf of the Project John Falconer said: “This new building will have a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of the communities of Strabane town. It will provide our project with a purpose built building from which we will develop a range of new community partnership programmes that will complement existing health and wellbeing programmes already being developed within the Strabane area.”
