About Jordan's Castle
Jordan's Castle stands close to the harbour of Ardglass, commanding a fine view of the port. This is a four-storey tower-house, built c.1450 with a stair case turret and latrine turret both projecting from the North side, with a machicolation between them. The tower is built of split-stone rubble with sandstone dressings.
One of the Jordan family was blockaded here by the O'Neills for three years until relieved by Lord Deputy Mountjoy in 1601. The tower was restored from ruin by the antiquarian F.J.Biggar in the 1920s and on his death was presented to the State.
