Communities Minister, Paul Givan, has welcomed the appointment of FP McCann to carry out £2.68 million public realm works in Portadown.
The Northern Ireland Executive is investing approximately £1.88 million in this project with the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council investing a further £800,000. The project will improve the linkages and connections surrounding Portadown town centre, including the People’s Park, Portadown train station, ASDA, the Old Town Quay river access scheme and the town centre.
The contract has been awarded to FP McCann by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council who are responsible for the management of the project. Works are expected to commence in spring 2017 and complete by September 2017.
Minister Givan stated: “The announcement of the contractor is an important step forward for this important project. Work is due to start and complete in 2017. Portadown has a lot to offer tourists, visitors and shoppers and this investment will help to make Portadown a more attractive destination for everyone to enjoy.
“This is a significant investment in Portadown which will complement other public realm work already completed in Portadown such as the People’s Park and the major public realm works to the streetscape in the core town centre area. I look forward to seeing the improvements in late 2017.”
Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Council, Councillor Garath Keating commented: “This work is a further reflection of Council’s commitment to improving our local economy making the town even better for residents, shoppers and visitors alike. It’s really extending the work completed in the town centre and will happen on a phased basis so that our local traders can continue trading throughout. It’s another £2million investment for Portadown and I look forward to seeing the improvements.”
