Competition to appoint Chair and Vice-Chair to Board of Northern Ireland Housing Executive

The Department for Communities is today launching a competition to appoint a new Chair and Vice-Chair to the Board of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE).
The NIHE’s goal is for everyone to have access to decent, affordable housing. The Chair and Vice-Chair will have key roles in working towards this goal and in setting the strategic direction for the organisation.
This is an open competition and applications are welcome from a wide range of people with an interest in public service, including individuals who have not previously held positions in this area. Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from an ethnic minority, people with a disability and young people.
The Chair position attracts remuneration of £32,512 per year, plus travel and subsistence allowances. This post will require a commitment of at least two days per week and is expected to begin on 1 July 2017. The Vice-Chair position attracts remuneration of £16,150 per year, plus travel and subsistence. This post will require a commitment of at least one day per week and is expected to begin on 5 November 2017. Both appointments will be for a term of up to five years.
All applications for appointment will be considered strictly on merit. The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 19 April 2017.

- This is a competition to appoint a Chair and a Vice-Chair to the Board of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE).
- The NIHE is a Non-Departmental Public Body, established by the Housing Executive Act (Northern Ireland) 1971. Under this Act, the NIHE took over the housing responsibilities of 65 separate authorities and became Northern Ireland’s overall housing authority. It is currently landlord to approximately 86,500 dwellings and is one of Northern Ireland’s largest public sector organisations with a budget of over £740m and a staff of approximately 2,700. The NIHE Board is responsible for the efficient, effective and economic delivery of the Housing Executive's services. - The appointment is made in accordance with the Code of Practice for Ministerial Public Appointments in NI in accordance with the requirement of the Commissioner for Public Appointments NI. All appointments are based on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees to be published.
