Nominations open for Heritage Angel Awards for Northern Ireland
Date published:
The Heritage Angel Awards are the first of their kind in Northern Ireland. This exciting initiative is led by the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society (UAHS), with funding for the awards from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and the Department for Communities.
The Awards aim to recognise the tremendous efforts of voluntary groups and individuals in preserving our built heritage, as part of the Historic Environment Fund’s Revival Stream.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation’s principle objectives are to promote the arts, culture and heritage for the public benefit. This complements our Historic Environment Division’s aim to support and sustain vibrant communities and a strong economy through realising the significant, ongoing value of our historic environment.
The inaugural Awards Ceremony will take place on 7 November 2017 at the Grand Opera House, Belfast. Each award winner will then move forward to represent Northern Ireland for best overall winner at a high profile ceremony on 20 November 2017 at the Palace Theatre, London.
There are four award categories to celebrate the efforts of people taking action to champion their local heritage and share and practise forgotten but vital craft skills;
- Best Rescue of a Historic Building
- Best Contribution to a Heritage Project by Young People
- Best Craftsmanship or Apprentice on a Heritage Rescue or Repair Project
- Best Rescue, Recording or Interpretation of a Historic Place
