Empty homes are a wasted resource. Although addressing the empty homes problem cannot solve housing supply issues alone, they can be part of an holistic approach to providing local affordable housing and regenerating communities.
Bringing empty homes back into use can reduce property deterioration and associated crime whilst reducing development pressures elsewhere.
Additionally, identifying the whereabouts of owners of empty houses should increase rates revenue. It is important that action is taken to address this problem.
