Improving places
The department improves places using various schemes and covers all sorts of public areas from major town and city developments to small neighbourhood projects. We also have responsibility for Former New Town Lands and are accountable for the creating shared public spaces theme of the PEACE programmes.
Neighbourhood Renewal
‘People and Place - a strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal’ led to 36 deprived areas across Northern Ireland being chosen to receive support. Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships have been key to creating local plans to improve everyday life for people in those areas.
River Lagan and weir
The Department is responsible for the impounded River Lagan between Stranmillis Weir and Lagan Weir.
Urban regeneration community development (URCD) policy framework
This policy framework sets out the department's policy objectives for urban regeneration and community development in Northern Ireland for at least the next decade. It provides a clear strategic direction and will inform its partners in central and local government and in the voluntary and community sector.
