The Department for Communities is statutorily obliged to review the Caravans Act (NI) every five years. The 2021 Review of the Caravans Act (NI) 2011 was launched on 14 December 2021 by way of an online survey which resulted in 717 responses, as well as numerous written submissions and correspondence cases.
All responses were carefully analysed and assessed by a cross-Departmental Working Group consisting of officials from the Department for Communities (DfC), Department for the Economy (DfE), and the Department for Infrastructure (DfI).
The 2021 Review has now concluded and the Working Group has produced an agreed Summary Report in line with their respective responsibilities as follows:-
- DfC has scripted the Departmental response and associated recommendations in respect of the residential caravan sector (Park Homes and Irish Travellers);
- DfE has scripted the Departmental response and associated recommendations in respect of the holiday caravan sector; and
- DfI has scripted any commentary pertaining to licensing responsibilities.
